An interesting workshop with Richard Smerin on 6th June in Fürth

London guitarist gives tips for beginners and professionals

MarktSpiegel 27.05.1998

Richard Smerin, an exceptionally talented Blues guitarist, who has played all over the world, recently settled in Fürth. It was a stroke of good luck for Blues lovers, who have already had a chance to hear him at a series of gigs (including one with Klaus Brandl at Schlachthof). And an even greater stroke of luck for the KMK Music Studio, who were able to persuade this connoisseur of the acoustic Blues guitar to give a workshop.

Richard Smerin was born in London and first picked up a guitar at the age of seven. As a teenager he was hailed as the best young guitarist in the country. His career really took off and he played throughout Europe and the U.S.A. with big names like Joan Armatrading, Alexis Korner, B.B. King and John Lee Hooker. Last year, Smerin played the legendary "House of Blues" in America. His three CDs have all been highly praised. "Retrospect" was released in 1994. It was followed by "Q. - M.U.D." in 1996 and his latest release "One-Off Chance - Songs of Les French."

At the workshop in the KMK Music Studio in Fürth on June 6th, beginning at 3 p.m., the "maestro" will be explaining some of his techniques and giving valuable tips for all those interested in fingerpicking Blues. This introductory workshop (in English) is open to both beginners and advanced guitarists. Further workshops, aimed at different levels, are planned for the future.
